She would not have thought of the emotions she is going through or never dreamt of, until 120 days back.. God !!! a bad hangover with little extra pinch of rudeness can tilt you ship upside down..

This news really makes me sorry for her..man..she was a princess. How could she be n a 3.5 * 2.5 cell..

Memorial Day Memories..

I wanted to make this Memorial Day week end the most memorial one.

Last year Memorial day was really adventurous and exciting. It was the first long drive for me..believe me..it was really a LONG one..We started from San Antonio headed to Atlanta. We stayed there for a day and half, visited the Coke factory, Mahesh's friend and had the ultimate Madras Saravana Bhavan. I really enjoyed the road drive, for the first time I travelled for 1000 miles on road which took around 17 hours to reach Atlanta.

Initially it was little scary because that was the first drive for Sriram too, he was an amateur with just 15 days license history but he managed well and drove for nearly 450 miles. Were you guessing what I am doing, simply sitting in the navigator seat for the time? Nice place though.
After Atlanta we drove to Memphis through Nashville.

I have heard about Nashville because of our AG account. It was really awesome place with plenty of trees and it was really green but nothing comes near Arkansas. We visited the Vinayaga Temple in Nashville. Luckily we happen to see an Indian marriage with the same flavour and gala celebrations as it would be in India. The Dandia and Groom parade on car was really funny. The whole town was awaken.

We reached Nithyanand's house, Pannir Friend in Memphis. I really loved this part of the trip. Enjoying the home food and that too with lots of variety. Awesome..Thanks for Pakacham Akka. I got the acquaintance of Arvind, nice chap who miss the outdoor activities and outside community. We went to nearby park and played with him.

Then, started the painful return journey, even though it was only 750 miles from Memphis it seemed longer than the 1000 miles. But, we pulled our groves and reached San Antonio. We covered 2117 miles on road SAT-ATL- MEM- SAT.

Okay !!! the flashback is over..Coming to Current plan..

We are not going to drive and enjoy the road drive now. We are flying to Los Angeles and driving to Las Vegas..somehow we got stuck with road again for 270 miles. :-) We have booked a room in Circus Circus Casino and would roam around for 2 days in Las Vegas alone.

I am really excited about this trip and hearing lot of stories about Las Vegas. Let this be turn to be more memorable one.

PS: This is my 100th Blog, I know the only audience is me. I am benchmarking this when I turn back. Let's see how this goes.

ICICI Cheap Commission..

I had a good opinion about ICICI Money transfers because it was hassle free and quick. I have taken help of my friend to do transfers and sometimes the transfer would not happen immediately meaning not exactly within specific business days. Sometimes it would take more days as it would be take normally.

On all those occasions, the transfer will happen on a day when the dollar-rupees conversion would be low. Cheap trade but still money counts. This was okay because if you go by book everything was correct and perfect. Even though every law should be appreciated by its sprit not by its words alone but it would not the case for commoner.

But, they hit all time low when my room mate some money from ICICI account to his sister's account (not ICICI) but the transaction here is not in dollar - rupees. Still, Sriram transferred 50K to his sister's account but Rs.800 had lost its way and missed out in the transaction.

When Sriram mailed and enquired about this, response was "No Charges will be made for any transaction". so what does it means, saying to the customer "Check your transaction, you would have transferred 49,200 instead of 50,000". It was irrtitating when you lose your money before your eye sight and could do nothing.

Atleast I am requesting them to stop say "Free fund transfer","Tension free transfer"..It sucks..

Luxor, Las Vegas..

Saravana told about an explosion in Las Vegas happened today. It was on the parking garage in Luxor on the strip. One person was killed when he tried to pick the device which was on the car. Sorry for him..

This month end we are travelling to Las Vegas and staying on the strip, booked a costly casino room. Hope everything goes good..

Evening Relaxment..Sleep..

I came little early from office around 5:30 pm, surprised to find alone in home. I was wondering what anyone can do in the home all alone. Thought I would get some virtual company by logging on to internet and did some routine mail checks which resulted with no positive results.
[Stats: Gmail (0 mails), Yahoo (1 group mail from Srini) and orkut (nothing). ] Sometimes, even your mail fails you.

Then, moved on to next entertaining corner of our house, our food court, fridge. Nothing much except some dairy products and fruit juice, My promise to diet control reminded not to touch Ice Cream. Guess what I did next, took some Kellogg's and finished it off.

I wanted to finish my Harry's second book but could not match my urge to sleep. I felt like beaten to death. Good thing was, I was able to recognise Saravanan and Mahesh entering the house and trying to talk with me. Sounds Great !!!

Thillu Mullu..

After deciding to restrict ourselves with two chappatis, we had some time to watch some movie. Mahesh quickly played "Thillu Mullu", a evergreen comedy from Balachander.

The movie was released in 1981, just around the year when I was born but still I enjoy watching this movie at any time. I would say make the most disgusting manager to watch with his team mates, he would definitely end up in enjoying the movie.

Nice movie with Thengai Srinivasan, Sowcar Janaki, Rajni playing the lead roles in the comedy track. Madhavi was one awesome beauty on screen, really enjoy watching her.

Tower of the Americas..

It's been nearly 1 year and 3 months in San Antonio and I have never been to Down town, River Walk or the Tower of America, one of few places to hangout in San Anto.





Yesterday went in San Macros with Kumar and today we decided to visit the Tower with Pannir's family.





Pannir and Palani had decided to go back India and wanted to visit few places along with us. Everything was planned, we are supposedly to visit the Tower and River Walk until the rain played a deciding factor.





Later evening, Sun brought some extra cheer to us and informed couple of others to make the plan reality. It was really good time to pass around 2-3 hours in that area.





We also have 4-D Ride to Texas show after visiting the Observation deck. Worth spending time to cheer up your dull Sunday..

Shopping in San Macros

Kumar Thangasamy working with me is about to leave India next week. Sriram, Kumar and me went to San Macros to do some shopping. I was little bit hesitate to make this trip, I know I am thrifty and I would definitely end up spending some money.

I could not refuse for the guy's call and made it. Before starting, we decided what to buy and where to buy so that we can wind up quickly. We planned well , Can you guess the outcome?

My expenses was 200 dollars, bought Watch for my Sister, Shirt, T- Shirt and trouser. The guy who wanted to shop spend less than us

It was a good day definitely not idle..

Certification..

I completed the SAS Base Programming Certification for V9.0 yesterday. It was a good paper with 3 months of hands on experience. I postponed the exam twice because I did not get any books for these days. The Books are costly.

Lucky I got a SAS Application Guide of 1987 publication through ebay. This was helpful, I did revise this book and rest of the working experience helped to complete the exam.

I am planning to take the next exam too..Let us see how it goes..

Before getting on to the History book, I wanted to complete all the six books of Harry Potter.

So, I got a chance to complete the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone two days back.

Cricket World Cup 2011

General complaint about the World Cup Cricket in 2007 was boring, no exciting matches and the tournament was long. One more important reason is the ouster of India and Pakistan teams from the world cup. Both the countries are among the host nations for next world cup to be held in sub continent.

India is going to host 22 games, Pakistan 14 games, Sri Lanka 9 games and Bangladesh 6 games.
What would happen if any two teams out of four not qualified for the second level? Can we pull the same kind of crowd as it would be normally? But, we can assure it would definitely more than the response what we saw in Caribbean.

What about the safety and security measures? We did happen to see demolishing of player's house and threatens. I cannot imagine the headache of the police personnel.

But, even we analyze all the pros and cons, the advertising rights and money will answer all the questions to be raised.

Finished the Hour Game and started reading the book about the old civilizations, just rekindling my history.

I would go to library today, to return back some DVDs taken for Lochana and will definitely get
"The Diary of Anne Frank". I wanted to get this book for long time but did not get a chance to read. Now, after seeing "Freedom Writers" movie, I wanted to read this.

I am watching a lot of movies lately..hell lot of movies..It would definitely average a day. I can't blame it. One more good thing, I have started to read books..Good Bad Comic anything now belongs to me.
Today I watched a movie named "Freedom Writers", it was good movie. It sort of senti which would suits me. Struggles and pain to success, not reminding Roark from Fountain Head.
But, It was a nice movie which made me to scribble a couple of words. Hillary Swank had really done a cool role and so does few of the kids in the movie. Nice work.
This is one great thing I admire, these people portrait the ordinary people as Hero for their heroical performance. Hats off..

ROOM for what...

This was another interesting note, Job Control Language for Mainframe have some parameters which can instruct the Job to do certain intructions, we call JOBPARM. One of the options in the JOBPARM is ROOM or R means we can give the programmer's room number and after the job finishes the Spool output can be delivered to the concerned person. :-)

Two Goodbyes..

Two Good Byes within a week in Cricket World. Both did not ended in a sad note. It's a coincidence for Whoolmer. He is one who promoted the minnows and it had indirectly affected him. He should be happy for what he did and achieved.

So should Inzaman, Imran who brought up this man to international cricket would always rate higher than Sachin Tendulkar. It's sad to hear the same Imran, let his fury against Inzy for the dismal performance of Paki Cricket Team.

Both would be remembered for what they achieved. :-)

Good Moring Note!!

After moving to Ambattur-4 division, I made sure I would reach the office by 9:00 am or before. When you swipe into the building, it would give a nice feeling to smell the chillness in air and enjoy the mild darkness. I love this environment. Suddenly you would feel no one around to see you. When you keep your first step, the mercury lights would flash and suddenly all the lights present on your path would glow. Each and every step you proceed, light would glow one by one. I would feel every one wishing “Good Morning” even you could see it is empty. I would giggle myself and wish Good Morning. Check this when you happen to reach early and no one around there.

And wish Good Morning to Sameer who sits next to me. Nice bloke to chat with who spends with LOMA in his morning hours.

Place my bag, thank God to start another day at office and proceed with work.

Shan's take on Schumi.

I dont follow Formula 1 and all my friends will talk about the Grand Prix. And morning canteen talk would be about the previous formula races. The below one was written my friend Shanawaz when Schumi is about the F1 scene and they was lots of news, sorrow and disappointment spreading around because of his retirement. And read the below, it would give a different perspective of the Schumi Character..

PS: My take on MS. He was good and even great, But the title of the 'greatest ever' deserves a better human being!
its true schumacher has achieved so much. I have absolutely no problems with his driving skills. He has been a fantastic driver. But in sport, numbers dont reveal the full story and says nothing abt the man.

1. 1994 Season finale, Schumacher and Hill both in contention for the championships, Schumacher makes a mistake, goes off track and once he realises Hill is gonna overtake, he attempts to hit hill and take him out, successfully. Both retire and schumi wins championships 1994.

2. 1997 season finale and exactly the same incident. Bcos he got away in 1994, schumi tries the same thing in the last race and hits villeneuve. He crashes out whereas villeneuve, luckily goes on to win the championships.

3. Schumacher's pass on Barrichello in Monaco 2005 when both were out of contention and fighting for 7 th and 8 th places. He makes a very risky overtakin move in the lastlap and makes uncharitable remarks after the race alluding to 'I am not here racing for fun, this is serious stuff'. Mind you, was Rubens Barrichello racing for fun when he was leading the race in Austria 2002 and ordered to slow down to let schumi pass him. Team orders do exist, but why should we call him the greatest ever if he needs the help of team orders. Atleast Barrichello had the decency to keep his mouth shut after the race.

4. Monaco this year ofcourse. It was very amusing to see a man with 90 championship wins and many other glittering numbers lose control of his car in such a funny fashion. Lose control? Ya right!!! His car is intact and the hoarding is intact and he loses control!

5. Nothing sums things better than his reaction on the Imola podium in 1994. The race during which F1 lost another great driver, Ayrton Senna and another driver Roland Ratzenberger to tragic accidents. When the whole world was mourning, Schumi was pumping his fist after the race and was seen grinning on the podium. 6. Jus to put things to perspective about compassion and emotions, this is how Senna reacted when a fellow driver crashed. HE parked his car in the middle of the track and rushed to help him. It was incredibly stupid thing to do bcos an oncoming car wud have killed him, but at that instant, his stupidity didnot matter to him. All that mattered was a fellow driver's life and well being.

Yes yes.. there are a few tears going around MS is leaving. I can never summon enough respect for the man alongside legends like Mohammed Ali, Pele, Jordan, Sampras, Agassi, Tiger woods et al. Places with "Thiru"..

Today Ravi and I had lunch together. I was planning to have it alone and watch some sports obviously cricket Sri Lanka and India. And Ravi joined me when I was searching a place to have my food. When we were discussing about my place Triplicane, Ravi asked me why most of the towns in Tamil Nadu starts with “T’?

One of the “Why” kind of questions which was never thought about. I said to him that could probably because most of the towns start with “Thiru” and which ever town has a “thiru” they should be a temple in that. I stated some examples to him “Thiruvallikeni”, “Thirimylai”, ”Thiruvotriyur”, “Thiruchirapalli”.

Ravi was spot on and asked me then what is the real name for Madurai. Hmm..I thought about couple of Goddess temples in Tamil Nadu. Madurai and Kanya Kumari and both the places do not have “Thiru” in it. Probably no Goddess temples carry “Thiru” or “Thirumathi” with them. Don’t know why?

Little Void..

After joining AMB-4, practically I have started to have lunch and coffee alone. I am dragged to like the kind of void or emptiness within myself. I don’t belong to anyone kind of feeling. It was nice and great when you don’t have any kind of pressure personally as well as professionally. Now, now you should understand why I am enjoying. I am all alone in the current project and not much work. I was not able to sit without keeping my mind busy at work. So, I gathered couple of books to boost my technical knowledge. :-)

Now, Head Weight is Mandatory..

TN Government has made it mandatory for all motorcycle commuters to wear helmets. I think this is first of its kind rule in our country. The Neurosurgeons have welcomed the decision and told this ruling should reduce the number of cases admitted due to head injuries. Really appreciate this ruling. We are losing at least a colleague every year due to head injuries and in all cases the person did not wear helmet.

And for me, it is time to buy a helmet J

My Current Readings..

The Fountain Head by Ayn Rand - I have heard lot of people talking about this book and after some search on net and stores in triplicane, I found this in my Office library (thats a cute little thing I would explain later). Gone through 100 pages of it, I am totally grabbed to it now. I could visualize the characters described in the book. Let me complete this, the due date is Feb 16th.

DB2 UDB Certification Exam 703 - I got this book exactly last year but did not even open the book, I need to travel back urgently. Now, here I am opened the book and planning to give the exam 23rd of this month. Wish me good luck guys..

My New Affair..

I am back to work and it’s been two weeks at office. My office has moved to Ambattur; I do like adventures and wanted to try out the Public transport. Luckily for me the bus starts from my place, if I could squeeze myself in and out I can grab a place even King Henry would not have had that satisfaction after grabbing his throne. It would be quite relaxing and entertaining an hour drive and another 200 foot will take to my office.

Men get easily bored of doing same thing. I wanted to try out the office bus thought at least traveling by office bus will bring the best discipline out of me.

I need to be there by 8:00 am at my bus stop and would start working from 9:00 am. Same would apply for travel back, start by 7:00 pm and taste my dinner by 8:30 pm. I love this; let me see how long this affair continues. :-)

Happy News...

Today, I was watching Vishnu's Marriage photos..I really dont know I was so happy to see one of my friend getting married. And some kind of happiness spread over when you hear your good ones are into some kind of happy news.

I am eagerly looking forward my trip to India...after I got list of marriage news... not to get married but to attend those functions.

Susi's engagement, Sandhya marriage, Pradeep's marriage and list still goes on..
And after hearing..Shan's marriage news, PK's D-Day and Bharathi's too..I went ahead and thought why cant all the guys can arrange the dates in one particular season..

Heard three marriages during July and August..so thought why cant everyone plan to have during particular season so that everyone can plan and attend everyone's function..

My travel to India was on January 19th and when I went to Airport the Airlines authority advised me that the ticket got void or invalid and I cannot travel with it. I was so annoyed and called immediately my travel person and asked the reasons. Then, informed to my manager about my inability to travel.

Moment of Happiness..

I felt the value of money and that too...the hard earned money... Today was my day, when I was alleviated to that level. You cannot explain that state. Thank to God, who choosed me to put in this state.

So..Close but too far..

How do you feel when you think, the person within your closed circle is neglecting you? I am wondering how to react.

If this is not within my radius, I would have neglected but I dont want to miss it...

What can I do?

Where to go?

Did you ever had this question, where to go? Couple of hours before, I would have laughed when someone had ask this. But, I am in a position to answer this but could not find a answer.

The bad thing , the days are getting longer for me and the good thing, I am not getting tired of things. I was able to take the pressure and people from different directions. Nothing tired me even I had only 18 hours of sleep in last 96 hours.

I felt myself drowned when this question got to me suddenly. How it all started? Oops, its my mistake. I forgot to grab my key and felt little lazy to get the other key from my friend. Thought I know couple of people and could hang around for sometime.

But, it is not possible to stay in their house alone right. For that, I could stay outside my house alone or at tennis court, watch kids playing or at swimming pool, hear the sound of water. I choosed all the three options, spoke to my neighbour ( good, not alone), spoke to my friend at tennis court (isnt good to meet after 3 months) and got my good old company back, writing at pool.

I know, I need to come out of my shell and get into other's shoes. Dont take it granted and dont expect too much. Life is full of practical experiences , good that I had one ;-).

Give me a break..

Valentine's Day in our Company

Decorations hold part of the Valentine’s Day celebrations. It all depends on to who is decoration and for whom we are doing it. Our Division also wanted to have a bash on that day. And Decoration was not part of the celebration but it was the main course itself. The sorry people were the office boys working in our division.

They were asked to tie “Heart-Shaped” Red Balloons in all the desks, pathways, corridors, doors and entrance. They have to blow, tie and also need to show some creativity to make decoration more attractive. And a supervisor is assigned for this purpose.

These guys were very busy for that whole week because of continuous client visits and would have spent more than 12 hours in office. After that, they have to blow these balloons, everyone were sorry for them.

A supervisor made a comment, ”Sir, ponna masam republic daykkuda etha mathiri kodi yetha sollale, atha sonnavathu konjam santhoshma pannuvom, ellati indepencence daykkuda paravalla. Ethukku poi eppadi pannraga” (If they asked to do for republic day, we would have happily done this, even for independence day too, but for this day). I know he is not a complaining man.

We can only acknowledge his question but wasn’t able to answer. Just went and helped him blowing 8 – 10 balloons for my cabin and around. J could not help much.

Got the Connection but not connected...

Last trip to my chicago, i did not got any mobile connection. And deepak and me would also fight for the phone after 9:00 pm. (deepak is my friend who stays in chicago and i sticked with him).
Last time, it was planned to be a month visit, so i wasnt planning to have the connection. But, i thought, i should have got one because the trip didnt go by plan and my stay went on for some time.

This time, I bought my Nokia from chennai and wanted get connected to the Mobile world. I dont want to argue about the pros and cons of having the mobile. I always see the positive side, :) I got my connection and will get into the mobile world this week end. Need to open my bank account.

Yesterday, we went to cingular for getting the pre paid stuff and ended up chatting with the gal over there. she was cool and pro business gal. She chatted a lot and went on knowing about our country. Isnt that awesome?

I am planning to go back to the shop sometime later. She told about the referral program, she is pakka business rite. But, no one losing anything here.

When we turned back, someone commented thats a long time for a connection. She giggled :)

Pen Pal..

How about having a Pen Pal..Dont think this is not something new, i thought about. i always loved to have one but was little afraid about exchanging letters. What would you expect from a person bought up from a typical South Indian Conservative family.. I didnt have any pen friends.

I would always peep into the pen friends list and watch about the person. I would do only that, nothing more than that. And why should you come up with the blog?

I saw a Pen Pal program at my client's location. Just checked more details about that but its for local residents. I didnt dared to think about it again after reading the rules and regulations mentioned to be part of the program. But it helps to interact with the school students who need some kind of positive words. The program should be well appreciated.

And the second thing, Two days back I saw a movie "You've gota mail", I know this is old movie. It was really nice to exchange your thoughts when both of your identities is not disclosed. You have that extra freedom and words, Write what you wanted and exchange. this way, they shouldnt be any problem.

When you try write or talk to your friends, you may not be able to convey everything and anything. But, to few we may but we cannot tell them, how you enjoyed your morning coffee. And how you enjoyed talking to the gal who is a common friend, lot of things goes like this.

The best thing is, you can discuss about anything and then if you happen to forgot or dont want to continue, you can do that. Next day, you may end up meeting with the same person and it start fresh.

Let see how it goes..

So..How was my first day..

This cannot happen in one day..

1. Woke up early mornin:g 4:40 am when wanted to get up around 6:00 am and lying down on the bed for another 30 minutes because you dont want to wake anymone and switch on the lights, obviously my friends are sleeping.

2. Early morning hunger, dont know what to do?

3. Got access card on the day one but did not get the user id, so was sitting idle for the whole day reading documents. God I cant do this..This is after a long time..

4. I dont what to answer when one of the client said, welcome to the Java world and to his team. Java ??!!?? I dont know what to answer, I wanted to tell, I am a pure mainframe guy..i need to start from the "Hello World" in Java. But, my manager came to rescue and said he would be billing 50% in this project and another is my stronghold side. Huppps... GSM ( God Save Me)

5. I was totally tired and dumb. Suddenly came a news to attend the orientation class at 6:15 and it went till 7:30..dei dei adanguda..

I dont know..and pray to god this should not be like this..

First Day in San Antonio..

Thanks to Maheswar and Kannan who came to Airport to pick me up. Made phone calls to my home. Also to my friends in Chicago with whom I stayed for more than 2 months. (tolerated me, literally)

Rightnow, Staying with my friend. This residential community has around 350 families and heard from him around 300 families are from India. He also informed the client place is the second large campus in US. Luckily he had booked one apartment in the same apartments and would occupy the apartment from March 2rd. Got to set the apartment and waiting for my room mate who will join me this Monday. This is just opposite to the work place and it would be great walking to office daily.

And now, I met 9 guys whom I know and spend some time chatting and watching movies.

Got one more day to take complete rest :-)

Travelling to San Antonio

Lot of confusions are happening around me. I thought, I was settling in the new project under Unni. I started to learn few things about DB2. :-)

Now, I am into different project in San Antonio. Started to San Antonio yesterday and reached today. All the process started on Monday and everything confirmed on Wednesday night. Had one day to do all the paper works.

Staying with Friends rightnow, should move to apartment next month and get a phone connection.

Its been more than 3 years in HCL Tech. Everyone ask me why you stay in the same company. i would ask why not, I don't know why but I stick to the same brand.

2 months of training-only enjoyment,3 months worked for the tools group initally, 3-month project in AG, solid more than 2 years 6 months in Chase Insurance, 2 months for Conseco in Chicago and currently 1 month in USAA. Totally my life revolved around Insurance sector.

February 1st, I was called by my Senior Project Manager and informed my Business manager wanted to meet me. I reached Ambattur to report for my new project and got to return back to Nungambakkam again.

Met him and to my surprise, he gave me Promotion letter. I have been promoted.

Dared to Do..

Everyone thinks, I can easily move with gals let it be known or unknown ones. I do agree I would easily get along with gals known to me but not with unknown genre. I have huge respect for gals and for their time. (does it sounds Political J ) Last Sunday was a different moment.

We guys went to Pondicherry (01/29/06) to play Cricket (don’t laugh, we are not the guys who enjoy the best in Pondy). We went to Sunnambar (backwaters area) and landed near the sea. We started playing Cricket and we found three cool gals spending their time in waters. Isn’t it good to watch Sun, Sand, and Sea with Gals?

My team was batting and I just walked around the shore. I was taking snaps from the long shots of cricket. Relaxed on the wet sand and watching the cricket. Suddenly I stood up and went near them. I asked them to take a snap with the cricket backdrop. One gal willing got up and took the snap. I felt my digital camera is worth for 280 dollars.

This was nothing for many folks but when I went near my friends. Then I realized these guys weren’t playing cricket, watching me instead. Thanks to JK for pointing this to rest of the folks.
Good thing, I didn’t get any beatings.

This article was good and says about how India projected itself in the World Economic Forum. Also shows what could be effort when the industry and the government work together. But, the biggest challenge as mentioned in the article, “They say that while India's campaign at Davos was both impressive and effective, the country must now walk the talk with infrastructure improvements and free up policy and procedural bottlenecks. If that fails to happen, its credibility could be at risk.” Are people marketed the Brand “India Everywhere” are hearing this?
The only thing was the India's Map in the article. Pok is not part of India. This could have been avoided.

Is it Worth a Wait ???

Today I asked this question when I was fixed in one place for more than a three hours.

Few things are really worth a wait..Standing in a queue for your favorite star's movie, for a Cricket Match, Getting Prasadam in a Temple, Getting two buckets of Water from Metro Water Tank, the recognition at an unexpected moment, for a true love or even for a look from your favorite person.

Shan and me entered to a college in Kodambakkam. Shan has to attend the Infosys exam. I know he attended not just for fun but to check his market value in India. :-) He had a cool offer Telestra that time and it was his dream job after completing his MS in Melbourne.
After completing the test, we were waiting for the results and it was supposed to announced by 3:00 pm.

It was a dry day and it was totally dry inside the college even more than 50 % are gals.
Shan and me are chatting about good old days and checked our watch it was 4:00. No one informed when the results would be announced and all the 1000 candidates are waiting. We just went out to cool off with Maaza. I could not control my temper how could a company calling themselves as Best Employer for three consecutive years make wait 1000 odd candidates without informing status. At least everyone wanted to know the time, when the results would be announced. Think about the parents waiting along with the candidates.

I could not control myself and blocked the car, which went inside with the recruiters. And they dutifully told it would take 1 hour. God..it would be 5:30 pm. Then, we went out to have Tea.

I do agree they have the best recruitment practices in the industry. But what for.. Think of this situation..Today I called 1000 candidates for a written test. I have started the test by 10:00 am and completed it by 12:00. I am supposed to release the results at 3:00 pm. But I have not done that till 5:51 pm. I have short listed 120 candidates and announced the results at 5:52 pm.

Think about a situation, you are fresher waiting for a entry, took the test for 2 hours, waited for 6 hours to get the results and another 30 minutes to get into the crowd to check the notice board. Now what will happen to the energy level wasted by the rest 880 odd candidates for around 6 hours. Remember these are positive energy being wasted which can be used in more constructive way.

Why cant their make the results online. So that candidates can check from their home. The only best thing happened here, Shan was short-listed.

I wrote this long time back but did not uploaded. The situation holds good even now.

Innovation always has the power to disrupt business. Here 's what to watch in the years ahead.

1. AJAX
WHAT IT IS: Software tools that make browser-based applications behave more like software running on a PC.
WHY IT'S HOT: Most Web apps require that a new webpage be sent to a user to accomplish each individual step in a task, which explains why they're often sluggish. But Ajax (the name stands for asynchronous JavaScript and XML) lets new data trickle in, updating the content of the page on the fly. You've probably already used an Ajax application: It's the secret sauce in Amazon's A9 search, Google 's (GOOG ) Gmail service, Netflix's movie ratings, and Yahoo's (YHOO ) Flickr photo website. Yet Jesse James Garrett of San Francisco-based Web consultancy Adaptive Path, who came up with the name Ajax, believes its real impact will be in enterprise applications -- speeding the work of remote employees. Business process and integration software company Tibco has already started incorporating Ajax into its General Interface platform. And Microsoft ( MSFT) is working on an Ajax developer kit -- a sure sign that it's ready for the big time.
KEY PLAYERS: Amazon ( AMZN), Google, Microsoft, 37signals, Tibco Software ( TIBX), and Yahoo.

2. BIOGENERICS
WHAT IT IS: Generic forms of the patented drug proteins sold by big biotech firms.
WHY IT'S HOT: Companies like Amgen ( AMGN) and Genentech ( DNA) rely heavily on expensive but effective protein-based therapies for diseases ranging from chronic renal failure to diabetes. These patented therapies, also known as biodrugs, accounted for $18 billion in sales last year. Now many of the best-selling biodrugs are going off patent -- which means that if others can copy them, they can sell them. But cloning a protein, with its complex molecular structure, is far more difficult than copying an aspirin. And unless it's a perfect clone, under today's rules, regulators will not approve it. Biogenerics are a major focus for pharmaceutical companies in China and India, and they are also likely to be sold in the European Union soon. The FDA is considering rules for the United States, however, and the industry is split on how to handle the new drugs. Biogenerics have the potential to capture roughly 11 percent of the total biodrug market, which could send prices plummeting. That would be bad news for the likes of Genentech, but potentially great news for millions of patients.
KEY PLAYERS: BioPartners, Cangene, GeneMedix, LG Chemicals, Momenta Pharma, Rhein Biotech, and Wockhardt.

3. DEEP WEB SEARCH
WHAT IT IS: Technology that boldly goes where no search engine has gone before.
WHY IT'S HOT: Google may have already indexed 8 billion webpages, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Many more pages are hidden behind corporate firewalls or in databases waiting to be indexed. By some estimates, this so-called dark Web is 500 times bigger than the World Wide Web as we know it. Unlike the public Internet, however, it can't be retrieved by the usual Web crawlers. Instead, the information must be fed into search engines' mammoth databases using special retrieval techniques.

Before the advent of desktop search, our PCs were part of that invisible Web -- connected to the Internet but not indexed. File-sharing networks already search your PC for MP3s, but there are tricky privacy and security issues to resolve before your hard drive can join the visible Web. There are also millions of digitally transcribed books waiting to be connected. Ultimately, deep Web search could answer a direct question better than hundreds of links, because many of the most authoritative sources have yet to make it online.
KEY PLAYERS: Endeca, Glenbrook Networks, Google, IBM ( IBM), Kozoru, and Yahoo.

4. HIGH-DEFINITION RADIO
WHAT IT IS: Forget satellite. Regular radio is getting an upgrade, with CD-quality audio and many more channels.
WHY IT'S HOT: Under pressure from satellite services like XM Radio (XM ) and Sirius (SIRI), online music services, and iPod-type devices, the $20 billion-a-year radio industry has been steadily losing listeners' attention. HD radio is seen as the solution. The technology splices existing spectrum owned by station operators into thin bands. Each band supports a new radio station, so one FM or AM station can be divided into as many as eight channels to broadcast eight times the music, the talk, and (most important) the ads. And since they're digital, HD radio streams can easily be stored, giving listeners the option to pause and rewind live broadcasts, just as TiVo ( TIVO) did for TV.

There are already 450 U.S. stations broadcasting HD radio. By 2007 that number should rise to 2,500 stations, covering 90 percent of the country. The biggest hurdle to mass adoption: Listeners will need to buy new radio sets to decode HD signals.
KEY PLAYERS: Clear Channel Communications ( CCU), Disney (DIS ), Ford Motor (F), iBiquity Digital, Radiosophy, Texas Instruments ( TXN), and Visteon.

5. HYBRID CELL PHONES
WHAT IT IS: Wi-Fi-enabled cell phones that bring together cellular and landline phone systems.
WHY IT'S HOT: Appearing in mid-2006 in 15 midpriced cell-phone models, hybrid services will automatically sniff out and switch to open Wi-Fi networks inside your office and home. This could solve two big consumer frustrations: Switching to Wi-Fi will result in vastly better call quality inside residences and office towers that are hard to cover with cellular networks, while also speeding up Web surfing on smartphones -- an upgrade that would make them, at long last, a viable alternative to the PC.

Fixed-line/wireless convergence, along with the services it will spawn, is where carriers are looking to spend most of their money -- consumers will buy 100 million hybrid handsets over the next five years, according to telecom consultancy ABI Research.
KEY PLAYERS: Bridgeport, British Telecom, Broadcom ( BRCM), Ericsson ( ERICY), Kineto Wireless, Lucent (LU ), Motorola (MOT ), Nokia (NOK), Nortel ( NT), Samsung, and Texas Instruments.

6. MICRO FUEL CELLS
WHAT IT IS: Batteries for portable electronic devices that use a refillable external fuel supply, from hydrogen to natural gas, methanol, ethanol, and sodium borohydride.
WHY IT'S HOT: The more power-hungry digital devices have become, the less plain-old lithium-ion batteries have been able to keep up. Fuel cells are the leading candidate to replace them. The most popular technology is called direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC), which mixes methanol and oxygen. Hitachi has developed a methanol-based laptop fuel cell that will go on the market in 2007. Japanese cell-phone giant NTT DoCoMo has teamed up with Fujitsu to build tiny fuel cells for mobile phones.

Last week Sunday..

I wanted to get up by around 11:00 am. Last Saturday was very bad indeed, working till 10:30 pm. God! who said work time gets over by 4:30 and people strictly works from monday to friday. Man proposes God disposes. Didnt had a clue, how I woke up by 7:40. Thats it.

Chatted with Deepak for sometime. Only Companion in my room. Called to Swaroopa and confirmed that would make to here home today. Also invited her and Siva for dinner. Both going to Italy, so should arrange this dinner before. Asked her about shopping.

Spoke to Shriram, Chatted about all the Offshore and Onsite matters and other Claims to be done in Onsite. Told to him about my LA trip and New year celebrations.

Spoke to Kamesh, invited him and Suji for the dinner. Told him about coming near to his place.
Arul called me and told about his sudden Houston trip. Project location has changed suddenly and was given 2 day notice. The time is now 11:42 and I need to catch the 12:30 train.

Rushed to bath and came back around 12:03. Asked deepak to check the train timing. Its late, I need to take a cab. Went down to streets to find it so empty. This is how Downtown could be. Full of day time activities during Week days and Full of night time activities during week ends.

I went to the next street, La Salle Still empty, went near Chicago river still empty and no cabs around. Finally got the cab and it was 12:22. Here comes an Indian to help me out.I started thinking about the next train 14:30, ok I am going to miss the shopping stuff. He helped me in near the station by 12:25.

The good thing is, we can get the ticket inside the train itself. It was 12:28 when I got into it. It was a eventful.. the time spent there was more eventful..

Do you guys ever loved to be away from home? I did. I really enjoy the days being away from home. But, later on I was able to enjoy only the week ends, because only I was able to spare time with my friends. And Today, Deepak went to India and Barun went to Arkansas. The end result.
All alone in 17th Floor sitting just opposite to Sears Tower and checking whether the sky is clear at 9:00 pm. This is horrible guys.

Home alone is bad.

7:40, Deepak wake me up and shouts India is in bad position. Pakistan had batted through the first day 326/2. This idiot is going back to India and wanted to spread his enthusiasm. I begged to allow me sleep and reminded him about the time I returned from work. But he succeeded. No Other go. Scolded him and Started my Day.


Scene 2.
08:05, I asked to get an USB from Office Depot and order an IPod. The reply was negative. He asked me to get the stuff. Thought why this guy is not helping me out. He pushed me out of the house and reminded to keep in touch with Barun and get the house key.

Scene 3.
Around 11:50 wanted to call this guy and wish him happy journey. Thought this guy would not that courteasy to call and inform to me. Enn Friend aache.. but, My boss Hatts called and started to ask about the status of work. Kept my phone and forgot to call this guy.

Scene 4.
12:10, I received a call from him and he is asking me to take care and said Good bye. Lets meet in Chennai or Bangalore. I was surprised. Enn Friend aache. Also told he had kept the key in the bed.

Scene 5.
18:15, Surprised to see a note and Shirt for me from Deepak. Check it out, how cool it is. Do you know guys Deepak is the most awesome guy I had ever seen or met. :-)

Thomas NastThe Power of One Person's Wood Engravings

Thomas Nast is a perfect example of the importance of knowing our heritage and just how many legacies one person can leave behind. Thomas Nast, through his wood engravings, helped to shape customs not only in America but also throughout the world.
Thomas Nast was born on September 27, 1840 in Landau, Germany. Following the tradition of thousands that immigrated to America, young Nast, his sister, and his mother came to the United States in 1846 while his father followed four years later.
Following their arrival in new York, Mrs. Nast enrolled her two children in public schools. While his sister was able to make the changes, Thomas found it difficult to adjust. In addition to not being able to speak English, he disliked school work. This continued for many years. Young Thomas as in danger of flunking out.
A neighbor made candles and crayons for a living. He would give Thomas a reject crayons. While young Thomas would spend hours drawing, he could not stand to do a minute of school work. Finally, when Nast was 12, the school master talked to his parents into pulling Thomas out of regular school and enrolling him into an art school. Three years later, at the age of 15, he had to quit art school due to financial problems. He sought employment.
It was difficult enough for a 15-year-old to get a job but it was more difficult since Thomas could not read or write. Since he was short and fat, manual labor was also out. The only skill he had to offer was his ability to draw what he saw. In those days there was a rigid apprenticeship established to obtain a job as an illustrator. One just didn't get hired for that sort of job without being an apprentice first -- except for Thomas Nast, however.
By sheer guts, Nast walked into the offices of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper and asked for a job as an illustrator. When he was turned down this didn't stop him. He was determined to get hired so he became persistent.
Finally, tiring of not being able to get past the receptionist, one day he waited for the right moment and slipped past her and marched into the publisher's office and requested a job as an illustrator. Frank Leslie viewed the young man's request as absurd. It just wasn't done that way. In jest, Leslie gave Nast an "assignment". It was to go down to the Christopher Street Ferry house in lower Manhattan during the rush hour and draw a picture of the crowd boarding the ferry. Hardly a news-worthy event.
To the publisher's surprise, Nast returned the next morning with the completed drawing. Leslie was so impressed that he hired Thomas Nast on the spot! (That particular was never published.)
It was while working at Frank Leslie's that Thomas Nast learned the art of wood engraving. From 1855 to 1858, Thomas Nast worked for Frank Leslie's.
In 1858 Leslie's was in a financial pinch and several staff members were laid off -- Nast included. For a year Nast found employment in an art studio. In 1859 he tried his hand at a political cartoon. He rendered a drawing depicting the police scandal that was going on in the New York City police department. Nast showed this drawing to the publisher of Harper's Weekly where it was accepted and published.
Nast worked at Harper's Weekly for only about one year before the New York Illustrated News offered to hire him at twice the salary he had been making at Harper's. They wanted him to illustrate current events in Europe. Suddenly, Nast was noticed! Faced with a salary that was hefty and an opportunity to travel the world, Nast hurriedly left Harper's Weekly. He now had the best of both worlds -- until it came to being paid that is. For a short time he got paid on a regular basis but soon was paid in script (an IOU). He never did collect any more actual money owed him by the New York Illustrated News. Stranded in London, Nast worked for the London Illustrated News to raise money to get back to New York.
When the Civil War broke out in America in 1861, Nast wanted to enlist but was assured by his friends that he could do more by covering the war as an illustrator. Nast, although still ashamed of leaving Harper's in a hurry just 2 years earlier, returned to them to seek employment. Harper's rehired him. For the duration of the war, Nast spent his time illustrating many battles and scenes from the war. Nast did 55 signed engravings for Harper's Weekly between 1862 and 1865.
Thomas Nast is best known for his Christmas drawings. His first appeared in Harper's Weekly for Christmas of 1862. His Christmas drawings mark the first appearance of Santa Claus as we know him today. Prior to this, Santa had passed through a series of stages beginning with a more religious-type figure.
The inspiration for how Nast's Santa should look came from Clement Moore's poem 'Twas a Night Before Christmas. Still lacking reading skills, he had his wife read to him while he prepared his drawings and engravings. On one occasion, Mrs. Nast read Clement Moore's poem to Thomas. That was all it took for inspiration.
The next 24 years saw Nast produce 76 Christmas engravings that were signed and published. Nast used Moore's poem to put it all together in visual form; a sleigh, reindeer, jolly old elf, filling the stockings hung by the chimney, and so forth.
In addition, Nast used his own imagination to expand upon the theme. He was the first to establish that Santa's home was in the North Pole. In this way, Santa didn't belong to any one country -- he became a citizen of the world. The concept of Santa having a workshop and elves to help him were also Nast's idea. Prior to his engravings, all children received gifts from Santa. Nast conceived the idea that bad children didn't get gifts from Santa. The custom of sending Santa a letter is also due to Thomas Nast. Although the custom of kissing under mistletoe was known in Europe prior to Nast's engravings, it was through his engravings in America that the custom caught on there.
Thomas Nast brought Christmas to a large audience through his engravings. The result of the impact that these drawings had on American's is astronomical. In Europe, Christmas was observed for centuries on December 6. By the late 1800's when Nast's Santa Claus gained popularity, Christmas Day was legally established as December 25 in all states and territories in the United States. In addition, an extended school vacation during this period became a custom. (A brief pause while all students write a thank you note to the Nast estate.)
From this seed, Christmas began the move to commercial and economic interests. Stores began including drawings of Santa (though not necessarily done by Nast) in their ads and tying it in with Christmas sales and promotions. Soon to follow was the custom of sending Christmas cards. Without Nast and his Christmas drawings he brought to the masses, it is hard to tell what Christmas and the customs that go with it would be like today.
Thomas Nast's influence on American's didn't stop with his Christmas drawings. His engravings chronicled the American scene from the Civil War period to the turn of the century. They highlighted every major national event and issue, the political process, elections, and scandal in the government. The American scene was ripe in subject matter for Nast. The country was fast becoming an industrial nation; railroads were spreading, factories were being built, and cities were fast becoming crowded with immigrants that supplied cheap labor. Scandal was everywhere. Elections were being rigged. One of his most famous political cartoon attacks was aimed at Boss Tweed.
Boss Tweed was actually William Marcy Tweed. Tweed and his ring ruled New York's Tammany Hall for years and managed to divert hundreds of millions of dollars from the city to their pockets. The series of cartoons exposing the Tweed ring was Nast's initial campaign against corruption in government. Nast played hard ball and wasn't afraid to make direct accusations. The public outcry became unbearable, Mr. Tweed is quoted as telling Nast at one point that "Let's stop those damned pictures. I don't care so much what the papers write about me -- my constituants can't read, but damn it, they can see pictures." A little over a year of his campaign against Tweed is all it took to put a stop to Tweed, get him arrested, and behind bars.
The little-known side of Thomas Nast is that he could not read or write. This left him with a major handicap. This didn't stop him however. His constant thirst for knowledge found a means to learn. Initially, he had his wife read to him while he did his drawings and engravings. As him income increased, he hired scholars to read to him from science, physics, history, Shakespeare, Dickens, Mark Twain, and so forth. It is from these readings that he gained his knowledge -- and inspiration -- for many of his engravings.
Thomas Nast moved on to become a strong influence in politics through his cartoons and engravings. Columbia, the symbol of America, was created by Nast. In addition, he created the concept of the Republican elephant and Democratic donkey. He also had a hand in how Uncle Sam looks today.
In addition to establishing many of America's political symbols, Nast also publicly supported -- and opposed -- certain candidates for the office of President of the United States. In the campaign of 1872 Nast's cartoons in Harper's Weekly helped to bring about the defeat or Horace Greeley. Greeley had been nominated to run against Ulysses Simpson Grant. The election of 1876 saw Nast support Rutherford B. Hayes. With each successive presidential campaign, Nast picked a candidate to support and produced cartoons and engravings in support of the candidates political platform. In seven presidential elections he never picked a loser.
As if Nast wasn't busy enough, in addition to working for Harper's Weekly, he also started his own publication entitled "Nast Illustrated Almanac." He also illustrated over 70 books including an early copy of Robinson Crusoe. In his later years he toured gave lectures, and did oil paintings.
By 1880 Thomas Nast was described as a wealthy man. His income for 1880 was only slightly less than the president of the United States. He owned some property in Harlem, New York which was valued at $90,000. He also owned $60,000 in government securities. His home in Morristown, New Jersey was valued at $100,000 and was paid for. At his career height (mid-1870's) Harper's Weekly paid him a base salary of $20,000 a year plus $150 for each engraving they published. A large share of his income came from lectures. He was one of the first to illustrate his talks by drawing rapidly on a large sheet of paper as he spoke. This was, perhaps, one of the earliest attempts at "chalk talks."
Harper's Weekly never did put restrictions on Nast's works. It was obvious that their circulation increased as a result of Nast, so they didn't want to edit or censor his material -- he had that much power.
Following the death of Fletcher Harper, however, the new editor named George W. Curtis adopted a more conservative policy. There were many disagreements between Curtis and Nast on particular drawings. As a result, his engravings began appearing less often and never on the cover. This change in editorial policy, combined with the invention of a new reproduction process for illustrations, brought forth Nast's his last two engravings published in the Christmas issue of Harper's Weekly in 1886.
After leaving Harper's, Nast spent more time doing oil paintings. He did many paintings of engravings he had done earlier in his career. In 1890 he published his own newspaper under the title Nast's Weekly. In 1902 he accepted the post as an ambassador to Ecuador. Six months later he died of Yellow Fever.

Days are Longer..

Days are very long nowadays and my current project that is rehosting a system to a new region is good. This work was more about knowing the system and the approach. This did not involve much of coding stuff. But it had many things to learn from it. And today it had run successfully run in our Test region and I can take a break for two days. Tomorrow we may have some fine-tuning and my week end would be miserable if I happen to receive any calls. But thats my work and love it.

My Last Three Sundays..

It’s been a month. It could have been two reasons, either I should be dead or rocking a lot. Luckily I was well alive and kicking too much. Last month was too much activity for me.

Second week of September was in Ooty – Mudumalai with my teammates. Traveling was hectic but it was nice to be out of chennai among the greeneries. It was very pleasant and stay was great. Think about staying in the forest with river in front of your cottage and deer having their breakfast besides you.

The next Sunday went to Tirupathi with my friends. It was long time we had made trip to tirupathi; it should be nearly two years. This trip was also comfortable; we used to walk from Tirupathi to Tirumala. It was fun walking with your friends for 3 hours.

The next Sunday, went to my friend’s marriage at Bhangarpet near Bangalore. This was too hectic. Started Saturday night and returned back Sunday evening. Started at the last minute and did not want to disappoint that guy.

It was hectic but it was great for last three weeks. And relaxed a bit this week end.
